John Francis Davis

Sir John Francis Davis (1795 – 1890), diplomatico e sinologo britannico.

  • Alcune delle espressioni più comuni dei cinesi sono acute e abbastanza sarcastiche. Un tipo spavaldo ma innocuo lo chiamano «una tigre di carta».
Some of the ordinary expressions of the Chinese are pointed and sarcastic enough. A blustering harmless fellow they call “a paper tiger.”[1]
