Dagon was not a fish god

Hello Spinoziano, I hope it is OK I write in English and not Italian.

Dagon was the god of cereal (dagan in Hebrew) and agriculture, lord of the land. The similarity between his name and the Hebrew word דג (dag, meaning fish) created a tradition from the medieval age of an incorrect interpretation of Dagan as a fish god, and that's why the early finders of the Mesopotamian reliefs mistakenly thought it is Dagon.
